Clubbing In Liverpool? It's a Religion! Freeze at Liverpool Anglican Cathedral

Freeze at Liverpool Anglican Cathedral on Saturday 2nd April

Freeze are one of the UK's best small promoters; the Liverpool gang have presided over some top-notch in the last 5 years and are well known for looking to push the boundaries of how and where events can be presented. Not that anything quite prepared us for this........

On Saturday 2nd April, they host a Dig Deeper party for the Phase One album launch, featuring Hernan Cattaneo and Danny Howells, two DJs that need no introduction, not least to the Freeze faithful. The event will take place in the unprecedented location of Liverpool's iconic Anglican Cathedral, a behemoth of the city's skyline that took 74 years to build, it is one of the most breath-taking feats of architecture in the whole of Britain.

It's almost impossible to accurately represent the scale of the building

Statistically the building is beyond impressive. It was the architectural dream ticket of its time (a competition described as the chance to define ‘the twentieth century cathedral'), with over a hundred architects competing for a career defining moment. It has since survived two world wars (the second involving a highly aggressive bombing campaign on Liverpool), and is the biggest Cathedral in the UK, the third largest in Europe and the fifth in the world.

This event will be in the Cathedral's Well, where architect Sir Giles Gilbert Scott's stated desire to blend the awesome and the intimate is at its most successful. Here you are flanked by the world's highest and widest gothic arches, sumptuous stained glass windows and a stunning view of the Cathedral's main space. Dance music simply doesn't happen in anywhere as magnificent as this.

Danny Howells returns to the city after a scintillating six hour set for Freeze in September. The event provides the platform for the global launch of his Dig Deeper mix album and will be his last UK date in four months. Danny's commitment to the venue and its wider role within society has is demonstrated by Dig Deeper, Freeze and international music and technology college SAE combining for a community project to give something back to those in immediate cultural resonance to the Cathedral.

This initiative will be a series of workshops that provide a gateway service into the music industry, focusing on Djing, Music production and jobs within the music industry for a variety of social groups, including the unemployed and school children from the surrounding areas. A Spirit Zone area will also be part of the event, providing a relaxed atmosphere for guests to engage with their own spirituality alongside the intended purpose of the Cathedral, that of providing sacred space in a busy world.
