Ibiza's politicians were out in force yesterday to inaugurate two very different festivals from the deep south. First out of the blocks was the Andalucian community's 21st annual celebration of everything from the south of Spain in Ibiza's big exhibition centre.
As usual, it as a blaze of colour, flamenco music and dancing, lots of food, drink and ingredient x – duende – that intangible spirit of Andalucia. The festival lasts until Sunday with
much more of the same every day.
In the old town, Mayoress Lurdes Costa, opened the Ibiza Jazz Festival and introduced local hep cats, Xaloc, who blew a
storm. Unfortunately the planned performance by TBC from New Orleans had to be postponed because of a storm blowing in the deep south. Hurricane Gustav played havoc with flights and their performance
will now (fingers crossed) take place tonight (Thursday)
Yeah!
