9 reasons why we love low-season Ibiza

Just because it’s no longer summer doesn't mean that Ibiza stops giving.

Being on Ibiza during low-season gives you even more reasons to love the island with incredible sunsets that light up the sky, amazing nature to go and see, superb food and drink to try - even parties to blast the night away. The only way to find out is to come and see for yourselves.

Because being outdoors takes on a new dimension

Ibiza is simply quite beautiful and in the colder months, there are still plenty of sunny days where you can even get a tan. Beaches are mainly deserted, except at weekends when the locals come out to play. You can enjoy the entire island from the coast, countryside, towns and villages without the searing summer heat, and fewer people are on the roads - bliss. On land and water, more sustainable activities are the order of the day, with paddle boarding, kayaking, walking and cycling taking on a life of their own.

Because you can get into Ibiza's diverse gastronomy for much less

When the low-season kicks in, it's time for the low-season meal deals. These food events celebrate local and seasonal ingredients, cuisines from all over the world and local and Spanish culture - sometimes all three in one event. In November and December there's Ibiza Sabor across the entire island and Restaurat in San Antonio. Come January Patromoní Gastronomic comes to Ibiza Town and a must try is the tapas tour, Pintxa San Antonio in February and March. Finally, in April Ibiza Sabor returns for spring. Live like a king though do watch the waistline.

Because you can still go to a super-club

That's right. Just because there's no influx of tourists as in summer, it doesn't mean that there's no late night fun on the island. Lío is filling in for Pacha this winter and taking on Friday and Saturday nights. Brand new Ibiza club Octan is also putting on winter parties as is the super-smart Akasha and also Underground. Ibiza is always open for business when it comes to parties. Make sure in all cases to check each club social media page during low-season for dates, parties and details.

Because it's the San Mateo wine festival

Early December can mean only one thing for oenophiles, yes the San Mateo Festa del Vi Pagès, a one-day festival celebrating the local wine produced in the fertile region of San Mateo. Try the wines from local producers free of charge and get yourself some local spicy sobrasada or butifarón sasuage and grill it on one of the open barbecues dotted around. Free wine might mean no limits so organise transport or agree on a driver who isn't drinking (very much). Hangover guaranteed.

Because Christmas and New Year's Day ARE totally different

Spending the day on the beach on Christmas Day on Ibiza is perhaps one of the most magical experiences to be had: sit in the sun and build an appetite for the big meal ahead. On New Year's day there's the New Year's Dive where people run screaming into the sea on Las Salinas beach. Later you can head over to either DC10 for its New Year party and dance the evening away. An excellent way to embrace the first day of the year.

Because the almond trees are in bloom

An important part of the Ibizan diet, almonds are much venerated. Indeed, there are almond trees all across Ibiza. In February and March when in bloom, these trees are exceedingly pretty with their whitish pink flowers colouring the fields and valleys. See the trees illuminated by the full moon, when they take on a ghostly ethereal silver glow. Organised walks are one of the best ways to see them. Take a nip of Spanish brandy to keep you warm.

Because it's carnival time

Who doesn't love a dance and costume display? In February, a low-season highlight is the Ibiza Carnival with events in all the major resorts. The biggest and best is in Ibiza Town, where local dance schools are the stars, donning colourful costumes and putting on dance displays. All floats have a theme be it a pop star, animated movie or classic film. It's a much-loved event and a great way of shaking off any winter blues.

Because you can renew your body on a yoga retreat

Winter is great time to seek out ways to renew the body and on Ibiza, there are yoga retreats aplenty all through the low-season. Spend a week finding your inner calm in a variety of different retreats. Of course, if you don't want a full on yoga masterclass, then know that there are a variety of drop-in classes, so come and enjoy the island's lower accommodation costs and choose from the large number on offer.

Because of the sunsets

Ibizan sunsets and sunrises are the thing of legend and their high-season is low-season when the celestial light shows take on richer colours of orange, pink, yellow, violet and deep reds that are truly beautiful. On the days after rainfall, expect even more vivid colours and know that you can see these natural masterpieces in many places all across the island.
