It's fiesta time in San José and the hugely popular Flower Power event arrives next Saturday 11 March. The village bursts into life as locals and visitors arrive to enjoy DJs, live bands and a psychedelic light show.
It's the kids turn in the daytime with Mini Flower taking place in the marquee next to the Town Hall at 11:00. There will be games, dancing and lots of fun, with chocolate for all.
In the evening the bars and streets will be full of people wearing colourful wigs, flares and platform shoes. The local bars will be heaving and it is part of the fun to pay each of them a visit for a drink or two. The Mojitos will really be flowing.
It is just a short stroll between the San José village bars of Raco Verd, Can Xicu, Can Llorenc and Bernat Vinya. Raco Verd is hosting its own extravaganza this year playing host to Carwash. This is Europe's longest running disco and funk night and promises to be an exciting addition to Flower Power.
From 22.00 the stage in front of the church will have DJs Be Bop'Nando, Pharma, Javi Box and VJ Bamboo pumping out tunes. Later on, the band Rock the Night will be belting out the best rock songs fro the 60s, 70s and 80s.
There will be dancing in the square and one of the special highlights of the party is the light show. it is amazing to see old and new meet as the church is adorned with psychedelic colours and patterns.
The event is part of a programme of fiesta activities that lasts until 15 April including sporting activities, concerts and movies. The patron saint day of San José is the following week on 19 March with a traditional procession through the village and folk dancing. The full agenda is attached here.
Flower Power is the star of the show though. People from around the island flock to San José to join in the fun. The village becomes a riot of vibrant colour and retro music.
Come along and be a hippy for the night. It's groovy man!
