A new posthumous exhibition of the artist and long-term Ibiza resident Giorgio Pagliari has been launched at Can Botino in Dalt Vila. The works are made mixed media of in oil and acrylic on canvas with overlapping waves made with cardboard, and all works using of temperate colour ranges of white, ochre, grey and pale pink - colours that remind us of stony rock.
The exhibition has been curated by Elena Ruiz Sastre, the director of the Museum of Contemporary Art (MACE) in Ibiza and displays Pagliari's examination of strength and movement and takes works produced in the ten-year period between 1988 and 1990. The works highlight the extremes of living in a universe with possibly risky natural occurrences to show the impermanence of our surroundings
The exhibition is part of a series of exhibitions curated by MACE which in the past has covered many artists, local and national, has included local artists such as Erwin Bechtold, Jean Willi, Rom-Ero, Tauste and Costa Tur.
Pagliari first moved to Ibiza in 1960 and son after put on two exhibitions in the now defunct Ivan Spence gallery. He was taken under the wing of island artist Carl Van der Voort, who supported him with various other exhibitions here and internationally. Pagliari developed a modern style that was to touch his work for the rest of his career.
Recalling the death of the artist in 2015, Elena describes her first thoughts “I was very moved because Pagliari was common sight in the museum world. I saw him almost daily, his elegance touched with his shyness as well as his customary friendliness and warmth”
