This coming week is a big one for the small, family-friendly resort of Es Caná, Ibiza as it gets set to celebrate St Christopher's day, the village's patron saint.
The fun goes on for days, kicking off next Monday 7th July with a fabulous Ibiza street party. We chatted to Pam, one of the organisers who explained that the street party began around 10 years ago, although she added, no one could quite agree on the exact figure!
The street party is a real Ibiza community event and around 8 local bars, plus shops and businesses chip in together towards the costs to make it happen. Tables are brought out into the streets for around 7pm and the feasting and merriment begins. Spotlight recommends getting there early if you want to get a good seat, it gets packed out later on!
The emphasis is very much on live music entertainment and a super, family-friendly, down-to-earth atmosphere with the fun usually going on until around 1am. Pam, who helps to run award-winning sports bar and grill, Moes, added:
“It's a wonderful event and every year it gets bigger and bigger. Lots of people book their Ibiza holidays around it now!”
When you consider the selection of good quality hotels offering great deals in the area, we're not surprised!
Expect more special attractions over the days that follow - previous events have included open-air cinema, traditional carriage parades and a Paella competition - all culminating around midnight on Thursday 10th of July with an impressive firework display.
You can get to Es Canar from Santa Eulalia on the bus. Santa Eulalia in turn can be reached on the bus from Ibiza town. Just follow the link for the relevant timetable in English.
There's plenty of parking in the area and for the active types, the fabulous forest adventure park Acrobosc along with watersports heaven Cesar's are right on the doorstep. There's no doubt about it, Es Caná is a family hot-spot right now.
Keep your eyes peeled over the next couple of days when we'll be looking at the wonderful beaches in and around Es Caná. Yes, risking the wrath of those who would prefer they remain a secret! Shhhh... ;)
