Circoloco strives to continually refresh and re-earn its accolade as the coolest of underground parties in Ibiza, if not worldwide, boasting an impressive array of new and old favourite artists every single Monday from the end of May till early October. It's a wonder to check out the lineup each week and see quite so many respected artists playing at the same event on the same day.
The Circoloco opening party at DC10 has, and always will remain the definitive Ibiza clubbers party, dispensing with all the expensive lighting and production and focusing on the music. This is essentially how it should be, great music on the impressive 'Void' soundsystem. Admittedly, the indoor main room has seen the introduction of new LED lighting last year which is subtle enough to work… but, the outdoor semi-covered terrace is just an old building filled with committed music seeking souls and a couple of red spotlights. The atmosphere allows you to absorb the sounds and enjoy the party with whoever it is pressed up against you in the crowd.
There were some amazing sets at the club last year, seeing the likes of Tania Vulcano, herself indebted to DC10 for being the backbone of her career, and many others playing the outdoor area normally reserved for chilling out, recovering and regaining some form of composure over your mind and body. This area only opens up with a special stage for the opening and closings and serves as an extra space, both interesting and exciting, to take in the sounds the club and its followers love so much… all whilst enjoying the sunshine and the planes as they come in to land only a few hundred metres away. It always seems a fitting way to welcome the hundreds of people on those planes, some of which probably never check the club and its parties out such is the changing soundscape of Ibiza today.
Old Circoloco and DC10 favourites returning this year include the aforementioned Tania Vulcano, Davide Squillace, the awesome Kerri Chandler - hailed by many for his sets in 2011, Matthias Tanzmann, old school DC10 fav' Clive Henry, Cirillo and DJ Wild!. It's worth noting that new French Apollonia label founders Dan Ghenacia, Dyed Soundorom and Shonky will be showcasing all they hope to achieve with the imprint at the opening, and judging from the label launch party video in Paris they will be one of the highlights for the night, whilst Shaun Reeves provides the obligatory Visionquest representation, because lets face it, it wouldn't be the same without at least one of them.
It's exciting to see Ben Klock return this year after a popular appearance at 2011's closing, whilst the addition of the likes of Dixon and debutante's Laura Jones, My Favourite Robot, and Chaim, amongst others, shows how things are being mixed up for 2012. The only person missing, really, is Jamie Jones, but then he's got his own Thursday night 'Paradise' themed parties at DC10 to worry about - another big year for him.
As per the usual, lineups for the rest of the season remain more or less unknown aside from the occasional rumour or unconfirmed news, so you can look forward to and expect a fantastic announcement each week thereafter. Just ensure you don't peak at the weekend's previous parties and miss out or get down too late.
