Talk us through the track selection in the mix.
"The tracks we carefully selected for this mix are straight-up, moody, driving techno featuring tracks that have been massive for us in 2012, with a few left turns in there including exclusive unreleased tracks and collaborations from ourselves. We have included artists such as Psyk, Sigha, Bass Mooy, Pfirter, Space DJz and some amazing producers that we have discovered this year creating a epic, dark, 2 hour journey in this mix."
Tell us about the podcast - where was it recorded?
"The podcast was recorded in our studio space; 'The Rave Cave.'"
What is it like playing as a duo? How do you work your sets and productions?
"We always play back to back in our sets and we absolutely love it. We know what we like and don't like, only playing tracks that we would dance to. Producing together is great as we both bounce ideas off each other - it's a joint effort."
The Plug
What is keeping you busy at the moment?
"Techno! We are busy producing our own tracks as well as working on remixes and collaborations which is really exciting."
What is the scene like in Ireland?
"We are from the sticks in Northern Ireland so the scene in our hometown is pretty much non-existent. We would often travel to the cities and bigger towns to catch the International DJs and live acts in Shine / Stiff Kitten in Belfast or Throb in Omagh and Audio Asylum in Derry."
You won an award at ADE 2012 right?
"We attended ADE for the first time in October and won the Demo Demolition XVI Award which is a huge achievement for us. The competition presented festival candidates the opportunity to submit productions to be selected and played to a panel of industry experts, who offered their constructive criticisms, thoughts and marks for each submission. We submitted a CD of our productions not even thinking that it would get selected for the showcase, and could not believe our ears when we heard the rumbling intro of our remix of Angel Alanis' track 'Tube' over the speakers. The feedback it gained was incredible from the big names on the panel which was moderated by Dave Clarke; including Mauro Picotto, Bryan Black (Black Asteroid / Motor), DJ Pierre, Laidback Luke and others. So winning the award topped off a great few days in Amsterdam and it has been a highlight of 2012 for us!"
What plans are in place for the coming year?
"We will be spending a lot of our time working on our own productions and focusing on our sound. We have a number of releases on great labels coming out at the beginning of the year, along with remixes and collaborations. The start of 2013 will see us making our debut in Scotland and we are looking forward to getting back to London also."
Biography
L.A.W., Lisa and Alice Wallace - two sister DJs from Northern Ireland, share a long-lived obsession of Techno music which led to the girls joining forces to do justice to anti-social-behaviour on the dance floors.
Their bassy, unpredictable, energetic techno and electronic fused beats, evident in their DJ sets and recent productions reflect the uniqueness of the L.A.W. set up itself.
Previous residencies in their hometown, Ibiza and Liverpool circles paint a picture of the future movement forward for L.A.W., with past appearances at some of the world's top clubs under their belts; such as SPACE, PRIVILEGE, ES PARADIS, EDEN, SANKEYS and WHP's AFTERLIFE.
The L.A.W. stamp has been enforced through the completion of a debut E.P., which includes one of their tracks achieving airtime on “BBC Radio 1 Introducing…” show which showcases unsigned acts from Northern Ireland. "The Sword," otherwise described as a ‘techno weapon,' is signed to the reputable label, "We are Genius Records." Their recent signing of their 'AWOL EP' to the legendary Angel Alanis' 'Slap Jaxx' Record Label was released this summer and has gained early support from one of the pioneers in Techno, Dave Clarke, through airplay on his legendary 'Whitenoise' Radio Show.
Recent attendance at this year's Amsterdam Dance Event saw the girls become the winners of the Demo Demolition Part XVI, which consisted of a panel of Dave Clarke, DJ Pierre, Laidback Luke, Black Asteroid (Bryan Black), Mauro Picotto, Jim Tremayne and Niels Brands.
Further productions, collaborations and DJ sets are hardcore proof that the up and coming L.A.W. sound is suspect of the future music landscape. Receiving positive feedback from Northern Ireland and International DJs, producers, labels and witnesses, the girls continue to impress.
