Review: Ibiza Paint Party at Privilege, 21 June

A pocketful of paint mixed with pandemonium.

If EDM is right up your street and you want to drench your mates in body-soaking multicoloured paint, then look no further than Ibiza Paint Party at Privilege. Who knows, you could get a secret visit from one of your EDM favourites like I did last night, when Dimitri Vegas made a sneaky appearance and joined in on the messiness. It was my second visit to the world's biggest club, and having brushed passed people the previous week at San An bus station covered head-to-toe in paint, I was keen to get involved with some of the mayhem myself.

Before entering the club at 1.30 AM, the paint party vibe was already in full swing on the disco bus. I watched party-goers paint neon patterns on each other's faces and arms and I got involved in some face paint action too - though this was nothing compared to what I was greeted with at the club. Walking down the stairs to Privilege, I could see UV lights and hear the AC/DC rock classic, ‘Highway to Hell', which soon had me heading to the middle of the dance floor. By 3 AM the impatient crowd we're counting down until the paint explosions came.

"If you think you can rock up and hide round the side of the dance floor away from the chaos, think again."

Getting the crowd reared up for the paint explosions, a huge countdown was displayed on a back drop behind DJ and producer, Luka Caro, who played his most recent track ‘Burn In The F**king House'. Some attendees climbed on the shoulders of their paint-covered pals and raved with a better view. MATTN stepped up next, and with the beat of her first track, a new explosion of paint came.

Then, when no one expected it, (especially me, because I'm a huge fan) Dimitri Vegas surprised the audience. His choice of crowd pleasing tunes such as ‘Jump Around' by House of Pain and ‘Love The Way You Lie' by Rihanna had the crowd singing and dancing in paint-covered unison. But a word of warning - this paint does not smell of roses. And if you think you can rock up and hide round the side of the dance floor away from the chaos, think again - it's much more fun when you actually get involved. So limber up, get your white t-shirts at the ready and you'll have a multicoloured night to remember.
