Review: Pukka Up VIP Super Yacht, 14th July

Amnesia, Ocean Beach and a luxurious sunset cruise... this Pukka Up boat party has it covered.

If you're looking to visit Amnesia Ibiza and Ocean Beach while you're on island, and as long as don't get seasick, Pukka Up's Tuesday boat parties are easily your best bet. The three-hour trip includes tickets to those two events, as well as the perfect pre-party. The event has recently changed, no longer leaving from Ibiza Town and instead departing from San Antonio Bay, all in order to witness the famous sunset viewable from the west of the island, moved to a later time to accommodate this.

Pukka Up also offer a VIP Super Yacht party, which ups your access into Amnesia for Together and Defected, so you can plant your feet on the VIP balcony before a chance to recover at Ocean Beach the following day. We went along for the first sunset trip ready to see one of the most beautiful sights in Ibiza. A late afternoon meeting at Ítaca got us our wristbands and a chance to chill on the promenade. After a short walk, we climbed aboard one of three boats, greeted with a flute of champagne. The weather was slightly overcast, but once we'd left the bay shortly after 6pm and gained some speed, we were soon under the sunshine once more.

The first beat was dropped upon leaving the noise reduction zone in San Antonio, just in time before those on board grew too restless. Ben Pearce's What I Might Do and the open water ahead sat well, views of Illa Sa Conillera were to our left as the hotel-lined shore grew smaller. Girls in bikinis, guys in shorts, drinks in hand – ready to dance into the evening. There's little more relaxing than seeing the ocean glisten under the sunlight, with waves chopping just like the tunes.

Cushioned seats allowed you to take in the sight of cliff edges and disappearing sun, as funky songs were mixed with your usual party starters such as Daft Punk's One More Time and Paul Johnson's Get Get Down. It was announced that we had a special surprise in store for us, revealed to be saxophone player Anastasia in a sparkling blue sequined dress. She brought full lung capacity, to deliver the brassy goods of Balearic notes, treating us with three visits in total. Blonde's remix of Rhythm of the Night, and Duke Dumont's Won't Look Back ensured the party mood was in full swing. After sundown the boat party finished with Mandal & Forbes' bootleg of House Every Weekend, and as we approached Ibiza again you could see the swarms of people on the beach who saw the sun go down too.
