Review: Hyte at Amnesia, 10th June

Mano Le Tough shone at the second Hyte party of the summer.

Every year after the opening parties, there is a slight dip in numbers, as a lot of tourists leave the island while others are still about to come for the summer rush. The result is that the massive superclubs, designed to house them in their thousands, are not quite as full, despite attractive line-ups. After the great (and packed) Hyte debut in Amnesia with Loco Dice playing all-night-long at the terrace last week, the party continues its residency at the big club, offering insightful line-ups from the very beginning. Last night was the turn of Mano Le Tough, Maceo Plex, Guti and Pan-Pot who fulfilled all expectations.

When I walked into Amnesia, straight to the room where Who was playing, the crowd was making the dancefloor vibrate. The artist, debuting in the club, went for tech beats, perhaps softer than the occasion required but including big hits like Limehouse by Mike Steven which were much acclaimed. He warmed up the booth for Guti who, straight from his residency at Beachouse, offered a great live set. Though not as well attended as the Beachouse one, it greatly exceeded it in musical terms and was a real highlight of the main room. During his set we heard his great remix of Narigon by Daniel Melingo; what an anthem!

At the same time in the terrace, Mano Le Tough kicked off his set, overshadowing the music of the other room. The Irish producer, immersed in an ambience that I've rarely seen in Amnesia (more enlightened and with the red colour as protagonist) bet for house sounds, rhythmic melodies and drums which got quicker as the set progressed. Two tracks marked the highlight of his music master which made the people go crazy (megatron included): Epika by Guy Mantzur and Roy Rosenfeld and Gosh by Jamie XX. Back in main, Pan-Pot took the DJ booth after big applauses for their friend Guti. Techno flooded the room and Pan-Pot made a lot of noise in the booth, jumping with each beat. Great tracks, great techno sounds and a great set, no doubt later in the season the room will find its stride.

Between hugs and fives inside the terrace DJ booth, Mano Le Tough said goodbye with Acamar by Frankie and Sandrino, while Maceo Plex said hello with Homeland by Joris Voorn. The first hour of his set was spot on for the massive audience set down at the big room and we could even hear a remix of Sailor & I's new track, Sweat. But the rest of the set mellowed, not on the same level as with the set he offered at the Amnesia Opening.

Nevertheless, I went home with that great feeling of having a good time. A lot of big hits were played along the night in the two rooms and the quality of the sets and the music was strong. It is good to see different faces at the club, fewer tourists and a really nice environment with five beautiful dancing ladies to brighten the night.
