Anyone who has taken a stroll down Playa d'en Bossa this season will have noticed something has popped up next door to Ushuaïa Beach Club. Standing proud at nine storeys and decorated in enormous vines and flowers, Ushuaïa Tower just isn't the sort of thing you can miss. Up until yesterday, however, only a few people had had the opportunity to party in this newest addition to the growing Ushuaïa empire.
Spotlight has been lucky enough to check out the Ushuaïa Tower rooftop (provocatively dubbed the Mile High Club) a few times before this official opening, but one doesn't say no to another chance to take in the sweeping panoramic views of Playa d'en Bossa and the hills behind, the beach and endless ocean and a nearly Birdseye angle of the Ushuaia Club stage and pool area (decorations were already up for Loco Dice's opening party). The roof was the first stop on a press tour of the tower, which then weaved down to the ground floor via a few different hotel rooms, the most striking of which was the ‘Presidential Suite', which was as lush as you're imagining. Massive, luxurious and with two separate Jacuzzis, our guide casually name-dropped Leonardo DiCaprio as the most recent inhabitant of this costly abode; apparently he had quite the party. I looked around for a dirty fork or dressing gown he might have used to steal as a souvenir but the place was immaculate. Let down.
Patrons at Ushuaïa Tower are able to join the fun from their balcony of either Ushuaïa Club parties or Ushuaia Tower parties, depending which side of the hotel they are staying. This evening the action was Tower-side, with the opening of Be Crazy and the first official party in the Tower's pool area. The location was pretty special and Ushuaïa featured it as much as possible. Unlike next door, the focus at Ushuaïa Tower is towards the beach rather than inland, so you can look past the pool, past the pretty young things (of which there were many), past the DJ and straight on to the sparkling blue sea. Atmosphere took a little while to settle in, as people at first seemed a little unsure what kind of event they were attending. Somewhere between socialising in the sunshine, cocktailing in high fashion and getting down and dancing to tech-house … Be Crazy was covering a lot of different party bases and I don't think it really clicked in until Radioslave came on the decks. His tunes spurred people into party mode, and the place began to both fill up and liven up as the sun went down.
Be Crazy was the first of many Ushuaïa Tower events this summer, the sunny courtyard will also host the Defected team, Reboot, Nervo and Sasha amongst many other names. Considering the calibre of DJs that will be entertaining punters at the Tower over the season, it's pretty sweet that all of these events will be free. All that Ushuaïa asks of you (in order to make it past the door) is that you slap on something a bit fancy. Pretty fair deal.
