The holiday-making public are voting with their feet when it comes to flying to Ibiza. An incredible 76% of passengers arriving up to the end of August booked their seats online with the low cost airlines which service the island. It's a spectacular rise which has also seen a decline in the fortunes of the traditional package tour charter flights which have experienced a 12% decrease in passengers.
Vueling is the most popular of the budget airlines and has brought over half a million passengers to Ibiza, followed by Ryanair, EasyJet, Air Berlin, Spanair, Air Nostrum and Thomson Airways.
Hoteliers are pleased with this trend as it frees them from the economic stranglehold of the big tour operators. They've also noticed that the long weekend – a booking from Thursday to Sunday – has grown in popularity since travellers were able to choose the length of stay they wanted.
