Back To Mine's last outing at Pikes was a hoot!
Back in April, the first date took place during International Music Summit and it felt like the whole industry converged on Pikes to let off some steam. We even spotted some off-duty DJs unwinding, cutting some moves in Freddies and getting thoroughly involved in the chit-chat on the Sunset Terrace.
For the next instalment on Thursday 1 June, the eternally fabulous self-help guru and Disco connoisseur Gok Wan is the headliner. Gok will be making his Pikes debut and we couldn't think of a more fitting match for Freddies' disco ball-speckled dancefloor.
Those that don't know any better might just assume Gok is the latest celebrity to take up DJing as a lucrative sideline. In actuality, he's been a lot more embedded in the scene than some care to realise. Gok is one of us!
"I found illegal raves when I was 15 when House music was being played in these big warehouses."
"For the first time in my life, I felt a sense of community. It didn't matter what I looked like. I remember just standing in the middle of it all and I just thought, 'I love this'. Everything about it. That's when my passion started."
That's not all going on at Pikes this week. After debuting last summer, Goldie is back on Wednesday 31 May to bring something different to Pikes. Then on Friday, the keys are headed to the Melon Bomb boys for their nutty monthly takeover.
As is customary, Saturday is Pikes House Party followed by Pikes On Sunday with Tales Of The Unexpected. This weekend, PRB Streetgang joins BLONDWEARINGBLACK, Pere Navarro, Franco Botto and Antonio Prosper. Before you know it, we'll be looking forward to the week ahead.
Remember to sign up for guestlist for all parties on the Pikes' website in advance. Popular events, especially those happening at the weekend, are likely to be fully subscribed soonest, so your prompt action is recommended.
