Ibiza 2019 | State of play | May & June

We quickly take stock of the beginning of Ibiza 2019.

With the start of July, peak season is now upon us. We thought it's a good moment to give you a quick overview of the hottest parties so far this season.

This isn't the full-blown review you will get at the end of the summer, but simply a first snapshot of the current hits in Ibiza's clubbing landscape.

In the first third of this season, the nights below have been the winners, either from a pure numbers point of view or - and in many cases both - because the atmosphere at those parties has blown us away.

These are all nights we have visited ourselves, most of them more than once.

Monday: BIG at Ushuaïa

As the name says, this party always was BIG and it just keeps being exactly that. It's always packed plus the show and production are up there with the very best. Simply spectacular.

Tuesday daytime: Kisstory at O Beach Ibiza

In its fifth year with a weekly residency at O Beach Ibiza, Kisstory has taken over as the busiest day at the venue. Selling out in advance now (!), the party gets O Beach Ibiza heaving week after week!

Tuesday night: BODYWORKS at Hï Ibiza

When at the start of the year rumours were going around that Eric Prydz was not going to repeat his residency at Hï Ibiza, people started doubting as to what would happen with Tuesdays. What happened?

Well, The Night League continued with CamelPhat and Solardo - who had played the same night last year already - put them in the Theatre together and added Fisher to take care of the club room. Result? BODYWORKS, the single biggest new entry in Ibiza's club world and British tech-house heaven. Boom.

Wednesdays (and every other day of the week): The IBZ Boat Party (Playa d'en Bossa departures)

Season three for the IBZ Boat Party and it is already up there with the best and busiest. This boat party is simply pure fun. Don't expect any lessons in underground house and techno, but maybe you've not come to Ibiza for that anyway...

Thursday: Music On at Pacha

The Ibiza Champions League transfer of the year, Marco Carola said arrivederci to Amnesia and ciao to Pacha (we will go more into detail on that at the end of the summer). The outcry was massive - Carola at Pacha!? And guess what - it's working beautifully.

The change actually did the party well. Pacha is super busy every Thursday of course. Plus don't forget about those select dates where Music On already starts in Destino with Music On | Daytime in the middle of the afternoon and then continues at Pacha from midnight onwards.

Thursday: Afterlife at Hï Ibiza

Season two at Hï Ibiza for Tale Of Us and their comrades. We've only just seen the first two dates, but if they are anything to go by...Afterlife is in for a mahoosive summer.

Thursday: ABODE at Amnesia

Season two as well for ABODE at the San Raf powerhouse. It's a Terrace-only affair this summer, but from what we have seen one with a fantastic atmosphere. Not full to the brim - which can actually be very nice too eh - but everyone's going for it as if there was no Friday.

Friday daytime: Cuckoo Land at Ibiza Rocks

Ibiza Rocks' only proper weekly electronic music event, Cuckoo Land pool party is the one currently growing the most. Not that surprising if you think about it because... well, erm, we're in Ibiza after all!

Even though the island is diversifying beautifully on a musical level this year, the main thing here is still the "untz untz untz"! Props to team Electric Ibiza for a job well done.

Friday night: F*** Me I'm Famous at Hï Ibiza

Guetta's second weekly appearance - that's no news as such, but after over a decade, he moved his nighttime party FMIF from Pacha to Hï Ibiza. And guess what? A bit like in the case of Carola going to Pacha, it did the party well.

David reigns over the Theatre while detective John Luther aka Idris Elba is doing his thing over in the Club room.

Other than the headliners you should definitely check out Paul Reynolds, who plays the club room on Fridays but masterfully takes care of Hï Ibiza's Wild Corner - aka toilet dance floor - on Saturdays and Tuesdays where he sometimes outshines everyone else playing the venue on the same night. Take my word for it.

Friday night: Defected at Eden

Whoa. Hats off to the Defected team - what a start into the season. Admittedly, the move from Sunday night to Friday night certainly helped, but boy are they rocking Eden week in week out!

Without a shadow of a doubt, this one is San Antonio's biggest weekly event this year and it's fantastic to see Eden in full swing!

Saturday daytime: ANTS at Ushuaïa

Themed Metropolis this year, ANTS just keeps on giving. Established as Ushuaïa's techno and house party number one, it's rammed every Saturday.

Top tip - go early and enjoy the first bit around the pool before the switchover to the stage. We love that intimate kind of party first before it turns into a stadium-like gig before sunset.

Saturday night: elrow at Amnesia

We have said it before: currently elrow is simply the globe's biggest clubbing phenomenon and there's no sign of wear just yet.

Packing out Amnesia week after week and putting on a show you simply don't find anywhere else on the island, elrow's still claiming the biggest night of the weekend title. Get those tickets well early because this is one of the few nights that does sell out!

Sunday daytime: The Zoo Project at Benimussa Park

One of the longest-running events in this list, The Zoo Project is still one of our weekend favourites and perfectly busy. What makes this party so great is the variety of music played, the performances and especially how the venue shines for that party.

Do go early, make sure you explore the whole place and don't forget - it's not over when the outside bit closes, the Rabbit Hole is where it's at after that!

SUNDAY NIGHT: SAGA AT HEART

Bedouin's SAGA continues to be HEART's busiest night week in week out. In its third season now, SAGA is a fantastic opportunity to see HEART in full swing and hear some amazing music as the nomad duo receives some stellar guest support this summer: Black Coffee, Guy Gerber, Damian Lazarus and Jamie Jones are just a few of them.

Sunday night: Solomun + 1 at Pacha

And the week ends with king Solomun. Unfazed by having new underground in-house competition in the form of Don Carolone and Herr Berkhahn (aka Dixon), Solomun and Pacha is a combination to die for and simply works a treat with Solomun +1.

Disclaimer. Of course, this list is, up to a certain extent, subjective even though we try to be as objective as humanly possible. Even more importantly, many other nights are also doing very well - this is simply a current hitlist of parties. A second state of play list shall be released towards the end of August while the big summer 2019 review with all the details will be published around closing parties as usual.
