Pikes opens for business

The debauched playground's 2019 parties.

Favoured by the rich, the famous and the degenerate, San Antonio bolthole Pikes earned its reputation in 80s. Made famous by Grace Jones, Freddie Mercury and Wham, now, the original boho-chic hangout is open for business. And by “business” we mean it trades in the language of decadence.

Summer 2019 may be tinged with sadness as our first without Tony Pike, but the hotel carved in his image will ensure that his unflagging legacy lives on.

Inviting back some old favourites, Pikes builds on last year's program. The island's favourite native party collective, Melon Bomb, is back for six scintillating Fridays. Expect Ben, Juan, Paul and Scott to present pure Balearic vibes. The first is on 10 May.

Following on from an impactful first year in 2018, Tales Of The Unexpected returns to poolside on Sundays, 5 May to 27 October. Once again the Brothers Grimm will be host duties, with guests dropping by.

In true Pikes fashion, the action doesn't end there, moving inside to Freddies to round off the weekend with Pikes On Sunday. This year a pedigree range of artists will play one-off all night long set deep into Monday morning.

The calibre of the artists in question is second to none, with names mentioned including Krystal Klear, George FitzGerald and Feel My Bicep's Hammer. After making a splash last summer, Denis Sulta is another DJ set to play. This has our interest piqued.

Saturdays will feature Pikes House Party and a conveyor belt of esteemed DJs on rotation. Venue favourites, such as Artwork, Bushwacka! and Leon Vynehall will be on hand to host.

Even midweek shenanigans are never off the table at the hotel, with Cosmic Pineapple back on selected Tuesdays. The bohemian party with morality at its heart connects the dots between spirituality and eco-conscience.

Much more than just a party, attendees are invited to partake in workshops, discussions, view documentaries and practice yoga, as well as dance. Naturally, there will be some tie-ins with some worthy charitable causes.

Finally, Flash will be reeled out on five occasions. The outrageous, anything goes, polysexual fayre will see some exciting talent drop by. Flamboyant characters, such as Little Gay Brother and the weird and the wonderful Maze & Masters included.

Needless to say, Pikes will have an ace or two still up its sleeve, with further one-offs and unannounced events going on throughout summer. As ever, keep that ear to ground and stay alert.

Plus, whilst nothing is yet confirmed, we're still expecting - or perhaps hoping - that cultural attaché DJ Harvey is back for more disco and rare groove goodness.

Tony's boundless energy and zest for life continues.
