So here we are - another milestone of Ibiza closing parties, one of the most anticipated and beloved moments on the island for techno-obsessed clubbers: the mighty closing of Afterlife at Hï Ibiza.
When the line-up was announced we couldn't believe it. Some of the finest talent to ever grace the decks of Hï Ibiza's world-renowned techno night all united at one event.
Divided into two rooms at Ibiza's newest super-club but united in providing unforgettable moments of pure music magic. Even Solomun decided to head down to join the party - but strictly as a dancing supporter.
Tale Of Us concluded their first residency at the sparkling Hï Ibiza by exploring the many shades of techno and bringing their followers on the ultimate aural journey for electronic music lovers.
And what a journey it has been. During this summer crowds of dreamers have gathered to spend hours away from reality with the many maestros. Giving life to the imagination, the party is not made out of this life: it is made out of the afterlife.
Whether you were there or not, fasten your seatbelt and come along for the ride. Here's what went down at their final fiesta.
a musical JOURNEY
The night started with heavyweight DJs Adriatique. The Diynamic duo made sure the spaceship took off in the right direction, with melodic techno tunes that bring us right in the mood for one of those iconic Ibiza nights.
As always, the two delivered. It was only 22:00 and we were already dancing. Find out the latest on them in this candid interview.
When we checked out the Club Room, Mind Against were also already blowing minds away. A very rich bassline with psychedelic sounds put us in the right mood for a good flight.
The Italian duo, a staple of Afterlife, delivered a solid set with a more aggressive sound that we are used to hearing from them.
We loved and truly appreciated it. They said goodbye dropping their masterpiece Days Gone. Check it out.
If you lost yourself in the synth line, don't be surprised. This is the title track of the highly anticipated Mind Against EP from the beginning of 2018 - power to the imagination.
DANCING WITH CREATIVITY
In the other room, the legendary Maceo Plex himself took place at the turntables. Once he was in the house once again, the voice of Jim Morrison was calling us, asking "is everybody in... is everybody in? …because the ceremony is about to begin." Maceo greeted us with a relaxed start.
Maceo truly brought it, and after a short interlude, he took the journey to another level. The unfazed Theatre was ready for more excellence.
Mister Eric Estornel continued filling his set full with electronic dark sounds that make his music so unique and compelling. The final track was something else. Influenced by gothic music, it was from a world beyond.
Masters of the ceremony Tale Of Us were the next act in the Theatre. The place was packed as the techno storytellers started their last set of the Hï season. Here's something a little less melodic than usual but still very cool. Mutants from outer space.
On a personal note, I love Tale Of Us. Their work has helped to widen the spectrum of what techno music is considered today.
Boosting feeling into a music that was once considered cold by some, they put a heart inside the robot and are continuing to fuse deep melodic and spacey elements. Even if it sounds like a paradox, this kind of techno is music for the soul.
HEADBANGING TECHNO
We cannot help it but, as proper techno heads, we are dragged to the Club where one of Berlin's heroes was hammering the dance floor. Ben Klock was there and rocking it.
To give you an idea of what was going on listen to this crazy collaboration between Coyu and the immortal Green Velvet on Suara records.
We were hooked in an instant. The DJ's unapologetic selections made us dance and headbang all throughout the set, and we lost track of time.
The perfect song to end a set, Brian Eno's An Ending brought in melodic ambient sounds returning us to planet earth where the lights went on and people applauded while Tale Of Us kept it going in the Theatre.
All in all, it was the perfect ending to another great season. See you soon, Afterlife, and thanks for keeping us dreaming.
