The biggest ever Ibiza Beach Rugby Festival arrives in San Antonio on Saturday 6 May 2017. It is a hugely popular weekend in the Ibiza sporting calendar, with at least 500 participants joining in the fun this year.
The wide, sandy beach in San Antonio will accommodate three rugby pitches with giant inflatable goalposts. The number of teams in each category is also being increased. You don't have to be an expert to throw yourself into the tournament either.
The soft surface of the sand is much more forgiving than a frozen pitch and the sea is a mere jog away to cool off. Remember to choose your team kit carefully too: bright, saucy, sexy or a combination of all three will do the job nicely.
Organiser, Ibiza Sports Tours, have some big names in rugby this year, like Alhambra Nievas who was recently awarded Referee of the Year 2016. Having officiated at the World Cup, Olympics and Six Nations, she is a real coup for the festival.
Other guests include TV rugby analyst Sean Holley who has reported for Sky Sports and BBC Wales. The impressive line-up is completed by Welsh former rugby union and rugby league player, Stuart Evans.
Of course, no festival on Ibiza would be complete without its opening and closing parties. Ibiza Rocks Hotel will be the venue to get the party started. After the matches and presentations the teams will head back there to carry on the celebrations at the Highlander and Shenanigans, the event's main sponsor.
The Ibiza Rugby Festival is set be a larger than life fix of fun fun fun. Pitch into the scrum, tackle the party and give it a try.
