David Bowie's life is celebrated this Saturday in a tribute to the artist who died in January this year. With 12 Bowie cover bands and 11 DJs, the charity event We Can be Heroes will cover his musical pantheon with everything “from Ibiza to the Norfolk Broads”... as the song goes.
The event takes place at Baluard de San Pere in Dalt Vila and starts at 4pm in the afternoon. The cover bands will take you through the ages of Bowie from the hippy Space Oddity to Ziggy Stardust, the Thin White Duke and beyond. Each band will attempt to interpret these many phases and faces and include groups such as Bowie's Stardust, The Rolling Soul, Wind Rose, Stone Corners and Uncle Sal Undercovers.
All money raised from the €5 tickets will go to APAAC, a local cancer charity set up at the end of last year to provide better cancer treatment in Ibiza and Formentera. The charity is aimed at complementing public health care and ensuring those affected gain comprehensive care with a focus on improving quality of life and better treatment.
The Bowie DJ sessions includes a line-up of 11 artists, including DJs Lost Angeles, Javi Box, Joan Ribas, Pola X and Abel Pons amongst them. Bowie, who died of liver cancer after an 18 month battle, was an artistic genius who played with his image, sexuality, took big chances with his music and defied any label anyone tried to pin on him. He first came to prominence with the atmospheric Major Tom, which he went on to conquer the US with.
His last album Blackstar was released just before his death on the artists 69th birthday to great critical acclaim. This Saturday you can expect a kaleidoscopic tour of this amzaing star's musical output - make sure you go.
