Bowie wowie
This Saturday high up at the bastion of San Pere in Dalt Vila is a kaleidoscopic tour of the many faces and musical styles of David Bowie. 12 cover bands and Bowie DJ sessions featuring 11 musical mix masters will play through the day from 4pm. Everything from Major Tom to Ziggy Stardust to the artist's critically acclaimed last album Blackstar will be included. Bowie died of liver cancer earlier this year and all money raised from this event will go to a local cancer charity.
San Jorge gets festive
Yes this is one of the last of this year's town and village festivals that take place across the island. They are a real slice of authentic Ibiza life, i.e. it's what the locals do. There are events in San Jorge (Sant Jordi) all through to past mid May, though the Swing and Roll festival on 15 April from 8pm is one to look out for as is the correbares event the next day, where there'll be live music and DJs in the bars of the village; and a tapa plus drink is just €2.50 in each one. On the 23rd it's St Jorge's (St George's) day with music and devils in the street from 9.30pm onwards.
Sport on the sand
The Beach is Open All Year – yes it is and during the month of April on Saturdays and Sundays you can sign up for volleyball, handball, paddle surf and kayaking or you could go along to catch a game of beach rugby. Your little ones can get their faces painted or take part in a craft workshop too. The best part is that it is all completely free – all you need do is sign up which you can do going to the Tourist Office in Plaza de la Catedral or email them for more information.
Unusual Suspects
It's Sankeys closing party (for winter, don't be alarmed) on 13 April and you can head down for 9pm and get a free aperitif to get your night started. There follows many hours of experimental music going on into the early hours as the party picks up where the welcome leaves off. Entrance is free until midnight if you sign up to the guest list on the event page. DJs include Carl Craig and AudioFly in the basement and David Balmont and Javi Mor in Spektrum.
Step into summer
Right at the end of the month is the Blue Marlin Opening Weekend. This iconic hangout of celebrities and VIPs welcomes in 2016 with Fur Coat, Acid Mondays and WHO on 30 April to kick off the two-day event. Cala Jondal, where the beach club is situated provides a magnificent backdrop with its dramatic cliffs and views right out to sea. This is one of the very early signs of an approaching summer in a top Ibiza venue, so if you are around, head on over.
