Review: The Booo - The Best Burger In Town

The hidden gem.

The Booo is quite the hidden gem. Nestled in the centre of Figueretas, this new in town burger joint arrived on the scene at the start of the summer and it's been on my must-visit list ever since. Yes, we are in Ibiza and it's great to sample the local Catalan cuisine but sometimes you just want a big fat burger, no? Well, this is the place to get your fix. Already a hit on the DJ circuit, with the likes of Loco Dice dropping by for a pre gig feast, the relaxed informal setting, affordable eats and quite simply the best (and biggest) burger you'll come across on the island, make this the hippest new hangout around. The young creative team here are aiming to change our perception of fast food, determined to prove that burgers can be delicious, healthy and reasonably priced. But this place isn't just about the food. Yes, the burgers are innovative show-stopping creations and the service is super friendly but The Booo offers so much more…

Secret Garden

From the street you'll see a small quirky restaurant decorated with antique lighting and trendy furniture but where this place really comes alive is out back. Venture through the cosy restaurant to reach the secret garden that really gives this place it's wow factor. A little piece of secret outdoor heaven hidden away in the centre of town. It's furnished with mismatched wooden chairs and tables, all handmade by the owner himself - what a clever chap. Shaded by fig and lemon trees (cue the homemade ginger and mint lemonade) adorned with pretty lanterns and chill out sofas that make for a intimate setting, injecting a touch of romance to the manly burger vibes. You could spend many an hour catching up with pals over a fruity iced tea (which tasted ah-mazing by the way).

Stacked It

Be prepared, the portions are super generous, so come hungry! I skipped a starter and went straight in for the main event but if you're up for a challenge you can choose from the likes of spicy buffalo wings or cornflake crusted chicken - yes, that's a thing apparently.

Now, lets get down to business, I was keen to see if the burgers would be as mouth-wateringly huge as I'd seen in photographs - and I was not disappointed. These bad boy buns offer up a signature insta-food moment - you won't be able to stop yourself from snapping away, trust me. I went for the Crispy-Bacon-Cheeseburger. The patty was succulent and full of flavour, cooked to medium perfection and housed in a toasted seedy bun. Stacked alongside it were fresh tomatoes, lettuce, onions, crispy bacon, egg, pickles, mayo and cheese. The cheese was what one can only describe as heavenly. a thick slice of gooey mozzarella cheese covered in breadcrumbs and fried, a kind of cheese hash brown if you like - yum. With more toppings than I knew what to do with, getting this mammoth burger in my mouth proved somewhat of a challenge but I'm proud to say I managed it and scoffed the entire thing without coming up for air - apologies to my dinner date. On the side came hand cut potato wedges, crispy, flavoursome and accompanied by a just-enough-spice, chilli mayo. Not in a meaty mood? There's a veggie bean burger or salmon creation on the menu for a meat free fix. I washed it all down with a tasty mojito, balanced with the perfect amount of lime and lashings of mint - just the way I like it. The drinks menu here isn't fancy, just good old fashioned bevvies and they're reasonably priced, too, a mojito will set you back €8 while a glass of house red is €3.50.

Sweet treat

Dessert was a struggle to be honest. I was full to the brim and just about ready to slip into a wonderfully content food coma, when I realised it would be rude not to review at least one sweet treat - the things I do in the name of Ibiza Spotlight, eh!

Our helpful waiter recommended the chocolate fondant to share. An indulgent soft centred gooey cake oozing with melted chocolate and served with ice cream and caramel sauce. I polished that off, too, bidding Adios to my waistline and Hola to chocolate heaven.
