Tonight sees the return of Es Caná's annual street party fiesta.
Celebrating St Christopher's day, the village's patron saint, festivities have been going on all week but it's the notorious street fiesta today (9th July), that gets a nod on our calendar.
Es Caná, situated just north of Santa Eulalia on the east coast of the island, is a vibrant village packed with community spirit, and the fiesta (Situated on Punta Arabi Avenida) celebrates this in all it's glory. The story goes that the street party tradition has been in full swing for about 11 years now and in this time it's gained notoriety as one of the friendliest parties around. The Local bars, boutiques and businesses pull together to cover the street party costs and organise the fun filled evening for residents and tourists to enjoy. It's become so popular that apparently a fair few dedicated holidaymakers plan their vacay around it, just so that they can attend.
This year the fun kicks off at 6.30pm with a water party for the kids (and, ahem, bigger kids), think slip 'n' slide ibiza style with water balloons, super soakers and agua sin gas aplenty. After the mayhem the tables come out to line the street around 7.30pm, setting the scene for Spanish style feasts and a good ole' knees up. Be warned the place will be heaving in no time, so arrive early if you want to bag a prime plot. Experience live music from Harry James, Danny Murphy, Abba Angels and Ibiza's got to see band, The Mardy Johnny Depps - expect some acoustic foot-stomping covers from the dream duo. But that's not where the fun ends, last year saw the event come to a close with a must-see fireworks display and this time around the organisers have gone one better, as this years program boasts a fire dance show - intrigued? Us too!
So, if you're looking for a slice of true Ibicencan charm and want to be immersed in local culture, pop yourself along to soak up the party atmosphere - and don't forget your dancing shoes!
