Review: Defected Closing Party 2013

Defected definitely went out with a bang!.

Last night Booom! closed the curtains on its Defected in the House Saturday nighter, one of the most popular residencies at the fledgling club. While the club itself has experienced see-sawing fortunes this season, the huge queues outside, shoulder-to-shoulder dancefloor and the fact they hit capacity by half past one proved that Booom! had started to overcome the earlier teething issues. On top of this, it was hardly surprising how rammed it was with a line-up like island favourite MK, the white-hot Eats Everything and the failsafe Tensnake.

Simon Dunmore kicked the night masterfully into gear as people flocked towards the booth to find their prime bit of dance floor real estate. Noir took the baton from the Defected maestro and transitioned the vibe from Dunmore's more classic house sound to a sleeker, more synth driven 4/4 groove.

Like the little black dress you can always rely on, as usual Tensnake delivered an on-point set of crowd pleasers, even at times flirting with cheeky pop-laced cuts. Predictably his 2010 titanic smash ‘Coma Cat' got a rinse, and you better believe the entire dancelfoor had smiles the size of watermelons plastered across their face. Even the most austere chinstrokers wouldn't have been able to resist making a beeline for the floor.

A ubiquitous force in Ibiza this season, there's barely been a major party Eats Everything hasn't played this summer, with the popular dirtybirder surprising many with billings at even the island's most techno-focused events, playing both ENTER. and Cocoon this season – a true credit to what a versatile and highly skilled DJ he is now regarded as.

His main room slot at Sven Vath's famous Monday night party must have left an impression on the spinner, as his set carried a certain techno-tinge and was noticeably tougher than the last time I caught him at the dirtybird closing. An undeniable highlight was when he dropped Maceo Plex's heavy-hitting re-rub of ‘NY is Alright' by TV Baby, that's been caned all across the island this summer. A set that left me more satisfied than food itself. Delicious!

With the ever-reliable MK and Nick Curly closing out the night, the party was always going to finish on a high, and cap off a season to remember for Defected in The House.
