Ibiza's Medieval Heritage

Ibiza will once again be celebrating its status as a World Heritage City

Ibiza will once again be celebrating its status as a World Heritage City by holding its annual Medieval Fair in Dalt Vila this year. The council has set aside €45000 to cover the cost of the three day extravaganza which starts on Friday 12th May until Sunday 14th.

As usual, the historic plazas and narrow cobbled streets of the living museum that is Dalt Vila will be thronged with crowds – over 100,000 turned up last year – to witness street performers and browse the 60 stalls selling traditional products.

The music, entertainment, food, drink and goods for sale will all be from the period when Muslims, Jews and Christians all lived in harmony in the old town. The currency, however, will be the good old Euro, so any groats left over from your last holiday in the Middle Ages will be useless.

On another Heritage theme, the Nelson Mandela Children’s Foundation is to benefit from a sponsored walk called ‘2006 Kilometres for Nelson Mandela’s Children.’ The walk will cover 2006 Kms around all the 13 World Heritage sites in Spain and will of course be calling in on Ibiza during the two month duration of the hike.
