Our local authorities certainly have the ability to pull a breathtaking defeat from the jaws of victory. Take the taxis for example. In a blaze of publicity last year taxi-metres were introduced which were going to solve all the problems caused by the different rates for journeys which existed on the island.
Now after 12 months there are still 5 different urban rates plus up to 5 different supplements which can be applied by the driver. This means that for exactly the same journey, a passenger could be charged totally different fares depending on the town of origin of the taxi.
What makes this story all the more incredible is that Ibiza is such a tiny place with a population much less than the average small provincial town. The authorities need to get their act together to simplify matters!
