Since seeing Solomun at Sankeys Opening Fiesta at the beginning of the season the fella had me hooked on his soulful bouncy groove and with his new Tuesday night residency at the club with his Diynamic Neon Night's party there was no way that I wasn't going back for more.
Arriving soon after 1am meant that I had unfortunately missed DJ Phono's opening set in the basement but I arrived just in time for the first b2b of the night from Uner and H.O.S.H. From the offset the deep pulsating bass which pumped like a heart beat through the vibrating floor perfectly anchored the melodies and ethereal synths in the guys set. For me Maceo Plex's tune Frisky truly got the party started and made sure that the dance-floor erupted; the whole set continued in this crowd pleasing manner and carried the 'finger in the air whilst nodding head' move across the room. Whilst backed by a backdrop of wiry stick men graphics, soft embracing vocals worked through the club when the soulfully smooth track Sunset - Compuphonic ft. Marquez Toliver was dropped and the funky groove of Christian Burkhardt's track Delight helped maintain the constant old school bounce right up until Kollektiv Turnstrasse's (live) set.
With Kollektiv Turnstrasse now behind the turn tables the groove had been stripped back a little and the simple yet captivating beats of his track selection were more prominent. Slower basslines, robotic sci-fi drops and catchy riffs which wriggled through from track to track were all supported by the clubbers claps running alongside a much deeper bassier sound helping keep with the overal style of the night. Further into the set we got a bit more of that much craved for melody and with a few bluesy vocals slashing up the tracks such as Blueprint - Till Von Sein, the room was ready for the final set of the night which of came from none other than Solomun who went b2b with David August. Simply beautiful stuff.
Now the up-tempo tracks had kicked back in followed by a harder bass the basement was pumping and the hypnotic melodies mixed with springy basslines were amazing. Their b2b set was seamless and their play list was simply blinding, the pairings ability to carry over the groove from one track to another kept the fire of the room alive. They even incorporated the odd chill out track into the set like Down on you by Dems which only elevated the buzz in the room further. Smashing out banger after banger the duo had the crowd in the palm of their hands with a play list featuring Let's go back - Kraak & Smaak, Listen - Chopstick & Johnjon, Jeyda - wAFF, What I might do - Ben Pearce and David August's own track Hamburg is for lovers.
So after managing to combine soul, disco, chill out, hip hop and indie dance into the world of deep house - and all under just the one roof, Solomun and friends had created an intimate party where you couldn't help but let the music grab you. Such a simple production with no gimmicks or fluff (aside from the odd bit of UV paint unwillingly applied to your skin), Diynamic Neon Nights has Tuesday evenings on the White Isle under its belt.
