Well it's taken until July, but I finally had my first Friday off since May, and it felt fantastic! I had the perfect day in Ibiza which began with sunbathing at Sa Trinxa in Salinas where I hoped to catch a traditional Balearic set by island legend Jon sa Trinxa. Instead the afternoon was sound tracked by Franco Moiraghi who is apparently one of the best Italian DJs and producers in the world, but to be honest his beats washed over me somewhat and I didn't pay too much attention. What I found much more appealing was my late lunch consisting of the freshest, saltiest most amazing sardines ever. I observed from my lounger the scantily clad mixed cliental Salinas attracts (it really is fabulous for people watching), drawing everyone from the hippies, Ibiza workers, unashamedly crispy and shrivelled nudists, to the A list celebrities.
Post siesta I treated myself to a spot of shopping in Ibiza Town. Right major go to tips for you here people. First and foremost the mac popup shop located at Annibal 5, Ibiza Town is a dream come true. Here's a big hint, if you're after a couple of products or more, you should book an appointment for a makeover. It costs €35 and you'll get the full works by a professional mac makeup artist and you get the money back at the end of the session to spend on any mac products you like. So it's basically like having a free makeover and they'll guide you step by step on how they've achieved the look you ask them to do for you. It's perfect if you've got a big night out planned, which let's face it; you're in Ibiza so that's a definite.
If you're a fellow vintage worshipper like me, there's only one place to go, Holala! Located at the bottom of Dalt Vila in Ibiza's Old Town, its two floors of retro heaven, bordering slightly on the pricey side, but still my go to for those signature talking pieces every gal needs in her wardrobe.
If you're on more of a budget I'd highly recommend checking out the Mango outlet store on Ibiza Town's port. Most items range from 5€ to 20€, the only danger being if you've not got much will power, again like myself, you'll still end up spending a ton stocking up. It's Ibiza's better quality Primark equivalent and they're constantly changing the stock so it's always worth a peek.
For dinner I went to Wok & Roll in Sta Gertrudis. The decor here is very cool and the staff are personable, attentive, and friendly, which makes a refreshing change compared to a lot of places! They keep the amount of dishes they do to a minimum, but what they do, they do very well. My friend had a delicious platter of sushi whilst I opted for mixed fish and vegetable tempura. The portions were more than adequate and lined our stomachs in preparation for Amnesia, our final destination point of the day.
It was my first trip of the summer to San Raf's coolest venue. And on arrival my draw dropped to the floor. There were apparently almost 2,000 people cueing outside, as it was the first night of ‘I Want my MTV' starring the one and only Snoop Dogg. God knows how, but we managed to get in and squeeze ourselves into the terrace where he was playing. It was the most amounts of people I have ever seen crammed in to a venue in Ibiza ever. I was getting brutally crushed, then unprovoked abuse from a scally girl and her mates, shoved by the heavy handed security, the deciding factor whether to put myself through all the trauma or not was a letchy Italian putting his hand up my dress and reaching for my nether regions... I literally elbowed my way out of the club where I was met by the fraught and apologetic promoter who promised me a VIP table for any concert of my choice as compensation.
At this time it was 3.30am and there was still no sign of Snoop. I've heard he likes to keep fans waiting; I ain't a fan so I surely wasn't prepared to be waiting! I was also told he insisted that all the glasses and bottles be removed from the club or he wouldn't perform. Apparently he'd been talking to Puff Daddy who got bottles throw at him last time he was in Amnesia so was taking precautions. A couple of my pals did decide to stay for Snoop, when he finally took to the stage they lasted twenty minutes before deciding it wasn't worth the effort. I have to stress this please everyone, this was a one off, Amnesia runs a tight and well organised ship, and is a fantastic party place. I guess the combination of Snoop Dog and MTV was all too much. It certainly was for this old dog.
Until next week.
