Season Review 2010: DC10

Back in business and 2010 saw them flying, the season could hardly have gone any better for the club on the road to Salinas.

Monday - Circo Loco

The New Era signaled the return of DC10's flagship night to weekly operations on Monday afternoons and evenings. It may have been 'New Era' as far as residents like Seth Troxler and Zip were concerned but it was very much old skool as far as the programming, music and atmosphere were concerned. Even the younger guys usually played with an education to their music, whilst sometimes it was so blatant you couldn't escape it. Cassy - who was awesome this year by the way - playing Voodoo Ray is one example. Tanzmann and Squillace lead the charge as chief Circo Loco sound protagonists, with that percussive, pumping, almost tribal house sound probably the most popular amongst the masses. (Think Cubism by Squillace himself or Johnny D's Love Me or Leave Me or Henrik Schwarz - I Exist Because of You). Even with all the change, there was still continuity; Tania and Clive are still rocking it and others like Damian Lazarus, Jamie Jones and Dan Ghenacia have been playing here for years. One off guests also included Ricardo, Dubfire, DJ Sneak and Yousef. Still a crazy, party atmosphere, still edgy and gritty and you still cannot beat a good old DC10 sit down!

Wednesday

Short lived series of extra parties put on through August, showcasing labels like Bpitch and Visionquest (a project by Seth Troxler, Shaun Reeves, Lee Curtiss and Ryan Crosson), whilst there was a special Timo Maas party. All this really pales into insignificance though compared to what happened at the DC10 20 Year Anniversary, headlined by Tony Humphries. The legendary jock came and rocked the house with tough, flitered New Jersey phat beats sat next to Paradise Garage drums and disco through to classic house like I Can't Get No Sleep by Masters at Work. It was also the only time the whole summer I heard La Mezcla by Michel Cleis; the rarity of that compared to the previous summers making it a special moment. Easily one of the highlights of the whole summer for a night with a carnival atmosphere that was just all about the music.

Friday - Pandemonium

Tania Vulcano's own residency was also strong although built around a different product than Circo Loco. Only the inside was open, but there still remained an upbeat vibe and the Tania+guest policy kept things simple and just as they needed to be. Guests included Alex Celler, Dj Sneak, Willie Graff (who had an outstanding summer) and flavour of the month act, Art Department (photo below), whose track Without You was heard every week at DC10, from start to finish. This got busy in August but was generally on the money for a low cost, high quality night of underground music on a day of the week that usually lacks a real party.

Overall

After a year out of action, the crew at DC10 came back with strong new concepts for 3 party nights and made them work with minimal (as in not very much!) promotion. There is no doubting this bastion of underground-ness in Ibiza triumphed over adversity to come back so stunningly in 2010 and fittingly closed the club and the 2010 season with a savage finale, which included Kerri Chandler playing in the Garden no less.
