There had been some speculation about the possibility of Mauro Picotto's techno love-in not returning in 2010, but it still has to be classed as somewhat of a surprise that they leave Privilege:
"After six successful years of Mauro Picotto presents Meganite in Ibiza, this year we won't continue at Privilege. We've decided to take on a new challenge with our label alchemy. Stay tuned to be updated."
...so came the official confirmation from Mauro himself, which means you can more than likely kiss goodbye to the the likes of Adam Beyer, Ida Engberg, all the Italian techno dons and labels such as Mobilee appearing at Privilege this year.
Mauro at Privilege
One surprise down, one to go. Warung, for those who don't know, is one of the most talked about clubs in the world. Situated on Brazilian Southern Atlantic coast, this is essentially a massive rave in a beach hut and has ALL the biggest names in the electronic music business stop by, Sasha, Digweed, Luciano, Steve Lawler, Swedish House Mafia, Laurent Garnier, Sven Vath and Booka Shade.

The problem though, like any brand or promoter that comes to Ibiza, is that they immediately find 75% of the artists they want tied down to exclusives elsewhere. But whilst we can't hope for a repeat of what Warung in Brazil has been getting, let's at least hope they can pick out those who don't have exclusives (Sasha, Digweed, Mark Knight, Gui Boratto amongst others) and built a night around this rather than 2nd or 3rd tier attractions.
As a centre for music, you cannot get away with not investing in your line-up in Ibiza. Meganite, whether busy or not, could never be accused of not doing this and had, in fact, some of the most exciting names of the underground scene in the last few years.
So here's our plea to Warung, make it a carnival atmosphere, book some decent names that people will pay to go to see and start on the right foot. Anything else is just doing an El Divino but dressed differently.
