Each year, every one worth a pinch of salt in the music industry heads over to Miami for the Winter Music Conference.
But do we really all have to travel to the USA to get an insight into the industry – especially when there are so many decent alternatives closer to home ?
Not any more, we´re happy to say ... as this summer saw the launch of the International Music Summit, here in Ibiza. And being the dance capital of the world, Ibiza seems to be the perfect location for such an event.
Pete Tong was the host for a three day conference – situated at three different locations each day - for a series of insightful panels made up of influential industry experts.
Each of the daily panels or presentations focused on specific and topical matters, including ´how to revolutionise your business via synchronisation´, ´digital darwinism´ and ´how to enhance your dj image´ - to mention but a few.
However, possibly the highlight of the summit was the get-together of representatives of all the Ibiza clubs, along with Andy McKay (Manumission) and Paco Medina from the Ibiza Consell Insular, who were debating ´How Ibiza will re-invent itself in 2008´.
The government´s decision to change the club opening hours has ruffled a few feathers, so it was great to see everyone together to discuss what they felt publicly.
Despite people expecting some fireworks, the general consensus was a positive one, with most of the clubs understanding why the decision was made – and publicly supporting the new rules.
In summuary, the event was a major success for everyone participating.
An event like this is good for the dance industry, and Ibiza, so we´ll be hoping that the International Music Summit gets the support it needs to continue and grow.
