This week it was all about being just that little bit different. I don't know anyone on Ibiza who takes the island for granted; the diversity seems completely disproportionate to the islands tiny size!
Paddle Board Race from Cala d'Hort to Es Vedra
Sunday found me down at Cala d'Hort (gorgeous beach –think white sands sloping gently into clear blue waters, fabulous restaurants set up in the hillside and the extraordinary Es Vedra sitting out at sea, clouds gathering around her rocky peaks whilst the rest of the sky a deep blue)
A day on the beach? Absolutely but in this case with an additional wow factor – so very typical of Ibiza. Ever fancied trying out SUP'ing (Stand-up Paddle Boarding)?
Ibiza is your perfect destination for it!
Hotel of the Week
Ibiza is famed for her sunsets and with Cala d'Hort and views of Es Vedra (pictured above) just a short car drive away, Les our Hotel Expert found a deal that had me saying “Wow!” aloud. We personally visit every single hotel recommended on Ibiza Spotlight and you can book online with us too. Total convenience and confidence! This weeks hotel is inexpensive and beautifully situated!
“The Hotel Puchet is open all year and you'll always be made most welcome, whether it's for a quick getaway in the off season or for your Summer holiday. It's been renovated and has all mod cons like wi-fi, air-conditioning, heating etc and a really nice, large swimming pool. Just a short walk from San Antonio & all it has to offer. This one is really good value for money!!”
Villa of the Week.
KT, our Villa Expert, knowing how much I had enjoyed Cala d'Hort but mindful of having easy access to other areas of the island, found Cana Olga. Rustic, romantic, beautifully equipped (Wi-Fi too!) it's a gorgeous villa accommodating 8 people. As to the views, you'll feel like you're atop of the World!
Club News of the Week
I'm not quite sure where Stivi, our Club Expert found either the time or energy to bring us these recommendations – but I'm impressed. If ever I haven't got time to get to a club event, Stivi and team are my perfect sources, ‘ the font of all knowledge' on the Ibiza clubbing scene.
"Wow...what a few amazing days we had, first with the IMS International Music Summit and their parties up in Dalt Vila, and then with the big openings of Ushuaïa Ibiza Beach Hotel and Space! Read all about it here:
IMS DAY 1
IMS DAY 2
IMS free party
IMS grand finale festival
Ushuaïa opening
Space opening
There isn't much time to recharge our batteries this week, with popular nights such as Subliminal at Pacha and Kehakuma at Space kick-starting their season as well as Privilege opening its doors with a spectacular opening party on Friday. And as if that weren't enough, Hed Kandi begin their 10 years in Ibiza celebrations on Saturday in Es Paradis...a clubber's life is hard these days :-)"
Restaurant of the Week.
Nanking is the well situated and long established Chinese restaurant in Ibiza Town. I have friends who love eating out but aren't fans of really strong flavours. The slightest hint of spice sends them howling into the depths of a glass of water. They would love Nanking! Inexpensive, with a comprehensive menu and wine list to match, Nanking is the place for those with a mild palate.
Opening of the week.
There was the most awe-inspiring number of Club and Bar openings this week and there's going to be a few more yet but I took time out to visit Sands Beach Lounge bar on Playa d'en Bossa. With Carl Cox and DJ Antz pumping out the beats, it was one party I was very pleased not to miss. Check it out and moving forward, reserve your lunch and luxury beach bed for that taste of paradise.
Things to Do.
Some things in life make me a little squeamish, a little nervous. It's always so rewarding to overcome them! So it was that I met the celebrated Chef William Black when he visited Ibiza this month and conquered my fear of fish buying and preparation at his fabulous one day cooking class. He's back in October if you're kicking yourself for missing this one.
Trying to be mindful of the winter waistline I seem to have acquired (please tell me I'm not alone in this!), I popped along and met the team behind Ibizeneco Organic Vegetable Deliveries. These guys welcome you to pop along and pick your own vegetables and indeed are looking for volunteers in their greenhouses. Always wanted to learn about organic vegetables? After just one day, I feel like an expert!
Fish, organic vegetables, what could possibly be next? A lovely horseback ride through the stunning hills and valleys of North Ibiza ticked the box perfectly. Maybe one day I will stop being amazed at how inexpensive a good time on Ibiza is, but right now I continue to be thrilled. Check out North Ride Ibiza and get booking – wholly recommended!
Looking ahead.
What does the movie Street Dance 2 have to do with Ibiza? Well, one of the stars along with other World-class performers will be strutting their stuff for an island charity on Saturday night. This tiny island never fails to impress nor fail to attract the best in the World. If you know Ibiza, this won't surprise you at all!
I was asked the other day how I got to know about all these wonderful events. The answer's easy – most of it comes direct from our own leading “What's on / Events” calendar. Have a nosey!
On behalf of the team at Ibiza Spotlight, wishing you and yours and fabulous weekend!,
Cat Milton.
