Showing Off. Ibiza does this so well and sometimes it's great fun to tap into it! Oh, I could name drop until my tongue falls off for the people that choose to come here are an extraordinary bunch. However there IS a point to the following, honest! This week in a tiny quaint cafe I sat next to an A list socialite, the next evening I was having drinks with a woman who dragged an international SuperBrand back from the abyss of imminent failure, this after chatting with a musician whose band has had more Top 10's than I can name.
My point? These are people who have the means to go anywhere in the World and Ibiza is, year in, year out their choice. They don't come here to work but to escape the pressures of their high profile or high intensity lifestyles. They come to relax, to bask in the sun, to regenerate, to breathe. If these folks can go anywhere, but chose Ibiza... each week this column touches on just a tiny percentage of 'why', sharing with you the best of Ibiza. Come, join us! (and don't miss some of the Special Offers we've found this week!)
Looking Ahead.
Talking of that VIP element, have you seen the details for Auras Bank Holiday party, Espiritu Latino? I'm guessing a few of the folk I've mentioned above will be there!
Restaurant of the Week
It's easy to experience that VIP feeling on this island - you can find it in almost every corner of the island and the dinner I shared with friends had that special something extra to it, whilst I didn't need to be a millionaire to share it. A gorgeous sunset and a restaurant on the beach - check out Elements at Playa de Benirras.
Of course, sometimes I just long for a good old Full English Breakfast and one cafe that has been welcoming folks for twenty years in a stunning location is Mels English Cafe (Facebook Link) on the Santa Eulalia beach front. It was a Sunday so apologies this photo is just from my iPhone but here I sat, the Olympics on the big screen behind me and this view before me as I tucked in to some of the best bacon & eggs you'll find on the island (ok, I had a hash brown too...) HIGHLY recommended.
Keep Fit - Special Offer and more...
Keeping fit when there's always a Mojito or a bar to pop in to could be a battle but not on Ibiza.
BodyForming are offering an AMAZING 30% Midsummer discount for 10 sessions (see previous review here - I'm a genuine fan as it works!)
Alternatively, I've just checked out one of the islands Pilates Instructors, Caroline - either pop in to her studio in Santa Gertrudis or call her up and have her come to the villa or hotel. I'm pretty confident you'll be impressed!
Hotel of the Week
Did you know we have a Special Offers page? Ha, I've been checking it out - 20% off on accommodation on the gorgeous island of Formentera, just a short (and beautiful) boat ride away?! Gosh. So guess what - I'm off to Formentera a couple of times over the next few weeks - can't believe my luck or the prices!
In the meantime, Les magicked this find out of our extensive list of hotels on Ibiza - enjoy -
El Puerto Hotel & Apartments
Apartments & hotel rooms at the same location, right in the heart of Ibiza Town near the port & marina and just a short stroll from Pacha and the Old Town. There is so much within walking distance that for a short stay at least you will hardly need to take a taxi. Perfect accommodation if you plan to be out on the town!!
Villa of the Week.
KT has found the perfect group / wedding villa for visitors to the island - not too big (sleeps 10) but spacious enough to kick back and relax or actually have the wedding ceremony on the grounds! Check out Can Coves now!
Club News of the Week.
It's a biggie - Stivi and the team are so fired up about the BBC Radio 1 Weekend that it's quite infectious! Here's Stivi's take on the week coming -
Spotlight's first album is on sale now - Yay! This is pure house music and a must for ever music lover - get it here. Alfredo and Jaime Fiorito have done a great job and our launch party last Friday was wicked!
Now, as already mentioned last week, the coming weekend will be the climax of the 2012 clubbing season with the BBC Radio 1 Ibiza Weekend. Here's where you have to go (so many good parties to choose from!):
Thursday 2nd August
The R1 Weekend hasn't officially kicked off yet, but I would either hit Cream's 18th birthday party at Amnesia with PvD headlining the main room and Calvin Harris on the Terrace or then head to ENTER. at Space again, this time with Carl Craig (starting early - 10:30pm!), Magda and Heidi joining Richie Hawtin.
Friday 3rd August
The official BBC Radio 1 Event is held at Ushuaïa and is basically a free event. The line up is impressive, but I personally don't like the idea of 30min short DJ sets. And as not everyone will get in, there is an excellent alternative to this: head to La Plage, just 5 mins from Ushuaïa and enjoy Groove Armada headlining this week's Get No Sleep party. Great! A last mention goes out to Space, because they have Morcheeba playing live at Beat & Raw that night.
Saturday 4th August
There is really only one place to go today - Cream at Privilege BBC Radio 1's Ibiza Weekend. Another endless list of big name DJs and an unique opportunity to see good old Privilege in its full glory with all rooms being open and very busy!
Sunday 5th August
Relax! Hit the beaches! Lick your wounds ;- ) And if there's still some energy left in you, hit Cadenza at Pacha with Paco Osuna and Reboot alongside main man Luciano.
What a weekend coming up!"
On behalf of the team at Ibiza Spotlight, wishing you and yours a wonderful weekend!,
Cat Milton.
