Ibiza's dog pound, The Centre for Animal Protection, was subjected to an attack of mindless vandalism on Saturday night when it was broken into by persons as yet unknown.
Using sledgehammers, the perpetrators smashed the doors off the dogs' cages allowing them all to escape. Of the 40 dogs in the centre at Sa Coma (near the Hiper Centro on the Ibiza – San Antonio 'motorway') most stayed in a group in the premises and were gratefully rounded up – some in a state of shock caused by the noise and disturbance - by staff arriving on Sunday morning.
Six however, took off at high speed and to date only three have been found, including Gitana, here in our photo, who had been abandoned by her owner. Thanks to Adoptando en Ibiza and their Facebook group, a campaign was started on Sunday to find the poor dogs, and as you can imagination there were lots of indignant comments from animal lovers all over the island and beyond.
This sort of thing only happens rarely in Ibiza, which is one reason why so many people are so shocked by it, but the most important thing now is to find the missing dogs, so if you see any of them, just contact the police.
