Archaeologists working at Ibiza castle – currently being converted into a luxury Parador hotel - believe that they have uncovered the remains of the first Ibiza town. They've discovered remains of Phoenician walls dating back to the 6th or 7th century BC which could be as an important discovery as the Sa Caleta settlement which is now a World Heritage site!
With so many civilisations occupying Ibiza in the ancient past, it's not surprising to hear that the remains of houses from the Carthaginian epoch have also been unearthed as well as what could be a Roman Temple.
The finds are regarded as so important that plans for the Parador – the ramps down to the lifts - are being amended so as to preserve the archaeological remains for future generations.
