The annual medieval festival held in the winding streets and cobbled squares of Ibiza old town – Dalt Vila – takes place again next weekend. Originally held to celebrate Ibiza becoming a World Heritage site it's become an annual institution which kick starts the tourist season on the island.
With markets, entertainers, musicians, exhibitions, craftwork and lots of food and drink it's a feast for all the senses and evokes a time when different cultures and religions coexisted peacefully in Ibiza, Muslims, Jews and Christians.
The festival is officially opened on Friday 6th May at 11.00 by Ibiza's Mayoress in the Parque Reina Sofia. From then on there's a full programme of events all throughout Friday, Saturday and Sunday until midnight, with the market opening from 10.30 until 22.00 each day. You can see on this map of Dalt Vila the main zones in different colours where everything takes place, however no matter what time of day, there's something exciting happening.
There is a full timetable of events available from Ibiza council in Catalan.
