There's yet another opportunity to take a break from our hectic working lives and relax a little when we celebrate Balearic Day on 1st March. It's a public holiday with fun for all organised by the Balearic Government across the Islands when no work takes place all day.
Here in Ibiza most of the action takes place at the old army base – Sa Coma – on the San Antonio road opposite the big supermarket. There's plenty of parking and special buses laid on from all the towns of the island to get everybody there.
A big turnout is guaranteed as the main event of the day, which lasts from 10.00 to 17.00, is a giant hoagie for 1000 people – how long must that be? - and a Paella for 2000!
Everything else pales into insignificance after this, though there will be markets, crafts, workshops, displays of horsemanship from Menorca, sports, music and my favourite, sack racing.
In the past, this event has been held in the San Rafael hippodrome and the traditional trotting races will still take place there from 16.30 onwards.
