All about BBC Radio 1’s kick-off at Ibiza Rocks

One of THE weekends of the Ibiza summer.

For years now, BBC Radio 1 has upheld the tradition of airing a whole weekend's worth of clubbing on the island once a year. Previous years have seen many industry heavyweights collide, meaning the weekend has earned its place as one of Ibiza's most desirable visiting times.

This year, Radio 1 teamed up with Ibiza Rocks and an impressive roster of musical artists for the first instalment of their weekend-long, island take over. Camelphat, Solardo, Sonny Fodera, Annie Mac and David Guetta were just a few to get involved with the festivities. Need we say more?

Hosted by radio legends and music maestros, Annie Mac and Danny Howard, the event always promised to be a good one. However, I was especially taken aback in a sense that it brought to Ibiza Rocks, a vibe I had never encountered before.

Not only was the venue packed out from the off, but also the atmosphere was off the charts. I truly believe this was due to the crowd's interactivity and special few surprises thrown in along the way.

I settled into my bite-size space on the dance floor at around 18:30, just as breakthrough DJ Medusa took to the decks. The DJ and producer's theme of uplifting house music paved the way for the heavier line-up components I was due to see later on in the evening.

Give his track, Piece Of Your Heart a listen to gain a feel for the party's initial vibe.

Next up was Australian DJ Sonny Fodera. As he is holding down a firm residency at the Hotel himself with Cuckoo Land, I knew to expect nothing but bangers.

Proving the venue is his kingdom, Fodera played like a champ and dished out plenty of summer tunes which undoubtedly added to the day's good vibes.

By 20:30 it was Camelphat's turn. I was interested to see them play in a venue so different from any other I'd seen them before. Of course, the award-winning duo was up to the challenge and delivered a mammoth set featuring all our favourite bangers.

While the day could not have been going better, the BBC had a thing or two up its sleeve and was sure to wow party-goers with some special one-off treats. One of these was a special Ibiza exclusive performance by UK-born singer Jake Bugg.

Performing the collaborative single Be Somebody with Camelphat, he delivered a unique and goose bump-enhancing moment. This is what Ibiza is all about.

Not long after, it was time for the David Guetta and his techy alter ego Jack Back to take reign. In true Guetta style, he did just that.

Like a wizard, he transported me to many emotions and set various feelings and vibes throughout his short but majorly sweet set. Check out his track Sometimes for a taster of the evening.

After this, musically the event went from strength to strength. With Manchester-born sweethearts Solardo making their Radio 1 x Ibiza Rocks debut, the appeal to stay was irresistible.

Solardo's new tune XTC was a definite hit amongst party-goers and inspired an epidemic of manic dancing across the dance floor. Take a listen.
